PLANT CAPERS.  About 2 years ago, I was on a morning run and saw that a ponytail palm had been left by the sidewalk.  It was very rootbound and in a cracked terra cotta pot.   I was in the middle of a slope "re-do" at the time, clearing out for cacti & succulents (just above the pool at the time).  I ran by it a few days in a row and thought "why not" left a note -are you getting rid of this plant, I'd pay you for it.  They texted back the same day- just take it, you can have it! I grabbed my hand truck and walked over, except I didn't realize I had one flat tire!  I lugged that palm home on the bum tire and was a sweaty mess by the time I made it back- lots of cars stopped to stare at the crazy lady huffing & puffing, hahaha.  I'm glad I made the effort, I know they are not exotic, but I love the way it looks & that it is a trio.  The tallest of the three is considerably taller than me now. This is I think about when it was planted and I ad

Fabulous Fall!  Echeveria Perle von Nurnberg colors are so good right now. I haven't written in a bit, I've been busy tidying up garden areas - tomatoes, pumpkins, etc.  Mostly though because my daughter Olivia had major abdominal surgery due to her autoimmunie disease.  She's doing well and I took her back to college yesterday.  She was in the hospital for 5 days, then home with us for about 5 more.  Other than navigating her backpack for classes (she's not supposed to lift over 10 lbs) she's doing so well.    I cleaned up Yucca Rostrata 'hold for Gretchen' -I know a lot of people don't like the apron trimmed.  I'm a firm believer you can do what you want in your own garden.  *She arrived with that blackish area, I bought this from the Ruth Bancroft garden 3 years ago during a sale.  The black isn't mushy and looks worse in the photo than real life.  She must have gotten some damage at some point.  Sophia and I picked 'blue doll' pumpki

A quick check in, it's finally cooled off!  Whew, we had several days of kissing 100 degrees.  Then, boom down to 70.  I was finally able to start cleaning the greenhouse, couldn't stand being inside it during the heat.  Even with the windows completely unattached to the roof. Several aloes I just received - but I don't want to plant them in the slope until Spring.  Who knows how much rain we will get this winter, this just feels safer for new plants.  Still many more pots to be added, I probably need another small table.  I made that goofy one, but it fits so nicely and is narrow. While I was shopping at the   Waltzing Matilija  sale before they closed for the hot months, I saw a beautiful Erythrina x bidwillii in a pot.  It was covered in vibrant red blooms, just gorgeous.  Sadly, he didn't have any for sale.  I managed to get my hands on one from  Woodlanders and after being shipped and neglected for a few days, was happy enough to send a bud out almost immediately
