The waiting is the hardest part...

I'm awaiting a delivery from Cochran Landscape here in Livermore, a BIG rockin' BOULDER.  Ivan and I have discussed at length how to maneuver a large boulder over to where he took out the tulip tree. This pathway is 3' wide, not wide enough to accommodate Cochran's forklift.

I drove over to Cochran yesterday, to choose a rock-not too wide. While looking I was laughing hysterically, worried and also thinking what in the world are we doing - we CANNOT POSSIBLY MOVE THIS.  I believe in Ivan, he's had several grand and clever schemes for my garden.  And if ancient Egyptians can build pyramids, uhhh - well they did have a greater workforce.
I think these particular boulders have been at Cochran for YEARS.  So I did get a little bit of a discount 4 cents off per pound.  The total weight is 3,740 lbs.  *More hysterical laughing. Also, I wanted the delivery Saturday morning (Ivan and Sophia are coming over tonight, Friday).  They could only do Friday, their forklift guy isn't working Saturday.

I came home and thought, why not try to get the forklift as close as possible to where I actually want the monster rock... easier to remove plants (and metal edging) than almost 4 thousand pounds of bulk.

I started with 5', then Ivan reminded me the guy said he needed 8' of space for the forklift.
At this point, Olivia came out and told me I was a "badass" hahaha, and showed me the felted wool frog she made.  So cute!
Back at it I went, making the path 8' wide.  Who knows if they can actually maneuver on dirt/d.g.?  I don't know! We may still have to be inspired by ancient Egyptians.
Through to the other side... sun was going down.
Please let this work, or I'll have a boulder right in front of the porch - which I guess would still be ok.
Bake inside, I made a nice batch of Chex party mix (in the oven, like the olden days).
Waiting on the delivery this afternoon, I'm terribly excited!  Do you think they'll get a forklift through there?

  2. Chex mix! We love it. I told Michael I wanted a few boulders for Christmas. I think the ones out along the street bed are too small. I would love to find someone who would deliver and position them for me.

    1. Mmmm, I love it so! It feels like Christmas to have it on hand, my mom always made it. *I never really thought this would be a possibility, until Ivan convinced me. Might be worth a trip to a rock yard to ask questions?

    1. I'll admit to making a double batch of Chex mix, and we've made a good dent in it. The meteor has landed!

  7. Yes... I predict much success! What I'm really wondering though is will you be able to stop at just one? (btw, Olivia's frog is adorable!)

    1. I was thinking just that, more? Now seeing the amount of valuable planting real estate it actually covers - one feels just right. Thank you, the frog is cute!
