Good-bye kitchen, it's been nice

 *This is my kitchen memory post, feel free to skip it 😉.  Well this is it, demo day is FINALLY here (Tuesday, that is).  The earliest photo I found of the kitchen, Dec. 19, 2008.  The kids are so little and darling, walls are builders beige as they say, weird ceiling fan in the tv room.

Waffles, or "awfuls" as he used to call them
Spa day with cousins.
First days of school- I always made chocolate chip cookies on the first day of school. One year I was short on time and cooked the entire batch into 6 GIANT cookies.

Thanksgivings
Ha ha ha, one of my favorites - Sophia turbo placing the apples in the pie.  Ivan wanted a more "tetris" experience. 
and laughter.  Here's to many more!  
We're going to have a BBQ this weekend to celebrate the great weather, and a final use of the old kitchen.  Technically I guess BBQ would be the way to go when the kitchen is demolished, but that sounds like a pain with no sink, etc. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

    Best wishes for a smooth demo, Tracy! I can hardly remember my old kitchen, renovated in 2019 (and finished just before COVID hit). I don't even think I had any photos of our almost 9 years using it - just photos post-gutting!

      I was only happy for the new kitchen, but felt slightly nostalgic when I saw the old pictures!

    I've never done a kitchen redo. I fear one is upcoming, though. Enjoy all the memories of your old kitchen. They are nice ones -spa day, chocolate chip cookies on the first day of school. The new kitchen will develop its share of great memories going forward.

    I love the centre worktop area where everything seems to happen and family gathers. That is the one thing we lack in our kitchen

 Ugh!  I noticed a gaping hole in one of my Golden Barrel cactus when I was wandering through the garden yesterday.  We are in the midst of 3-4 days of rain, which will be followed by a morning freeze - BAD, bad bad.   I will try to lay some poly-tarp on them just for a few days to keep the slope as dry as possible.  I thought being planted on the slope would provide them with enough drainage, and most do seem nice & firm.   These were just planted Spring 2022, if they can make it through this deluge should be fine in the future.   Goo. and more and more goo. 😒 Here is the before - thankfully those big boys Goldens seem solid.  The rot was on a mid size 10" and a much smaller 3".  One portion of the Golden Fox cactus was rotten in our earlier rain in December 2022.  But it looks like the rest of the plant will pull through unscathed.  Fingers crossed. I visited Puget Sound with the 2024 Garden Fling for the first 2 days (of 4).  I thought I would post a few of my favorite pictures/moments, as I've not organized all my photos yet.  From Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden.  This blew my mind, not algae but a tiny fern Azolla covering the pond.  I live in such a dry area, this was mindblowingly green.  There was even a little sign warning people not to walk on the water.   Closeup. A private garden on Vashon Island.   Oooh, cones. A sort of natural swimming pond, 7 feet deep on one end. This may be the most inspiring section I saw.  Not just using rock in the slope, but the addition of wood was so great. I left early to visit my parents in Portland, I don't see them enough.  They will be 82 in September.  They are doing great, and had added 40 shrubs to their garden just recently! The storm on Saturday brought lots of rain .70" to Livermore and strong winds.  A few boards of our fence blew over.  A few branches blew into the back, but nothing too damaging. It is a relief that everything got a good drink. Sunday was gorgeous.  I've been meaning to post this pic - A fern Ivan mounted on a grow pole, plus a little Hoya vining it's way underneath - I moved to the back in a warmer spot for the Hoya. *S, can you chime in with the fern ID?  Olivia and I drove to Berkeley, nabbed Sophia and went back to Urban Ore.  *I was inspired by  Loree, DangerGarden Blog  post on her visit to The Tropics Inc. Also, stir crazy from a day inside. I was hoping to pick up a street grate from a pile they had available the last time I visited.   So many windows!  I'd love to build a little house made up of these.  Oooh, something rusty?
