I wish I could change this font!
I've followed the instructions, but no matter - the stupid Title font won't change. Oh well. I finished the slats in the lath house. I tried out the "clear" sealant for the wood, but it was too yellow. To the left is a scrap of the Douglas fir I tried the sealant on, yuck. I like the raw wood so much I just want to seal it as is. I'm trying a different product, should arrive today. *They didn't have it available at our local Lowe's, Home Depot or Ace. It was lovely outside yesterday, 70° on December 4th amazing!
Since I'm waiting on the sealant, I got busy with other areas. It was a joy to be outside. Look at all that grass in the far back pathway! We have zero lawn, I have no idea how I get so many seedlings. Asclepias linaria, pineneedle milkweed native to CA. This little subshrub has been a delight, from Annie's Annuals.Boophone looks cool this year. I have a couple more in pots in the greenhouse, this one outdoors is thriving, I need to plant the other 2 as well. Didn't realize how tough they are.
The Aloe Hercules var. is starting to show a little growth, I moved it a couple times. Probably set it back a little. It was less expensive than a lot I'd seen for sale, I think because initially the variegation wasn't super strong.
New racing stripe is coming in nicely!
It's exciting to see Aloes inflorescence, some of them I'm seeing popping out will be first time bloomers.
Now this Ferox hybrid in the front garden, ugh - it always browns out (and it's been dry, just one day of rain). I ripped off the brown tops hoping it wouldn't keep spreading, no luck. I think because it doesn't get the sun in the winter as it does in the summer. Or is it just a big dud. Do I move it, or let it grow a bit taller and the sun will hit it?
Yay for these Gorgeous teeth!
Oh, you Tiger!Weeds!Meyer lemons are ripe!
As are the limes.
A little round up of the good, bad & ugly. I'll get the sealing done on the lath house tomorrow and share the pictures. We did get an earthquake/tsunami warning this morning. I didn't feel the earthquake here, it was north of us -I believe about 350 miles.
How is the weather where you are? I'm going to enjoy the t-shirt weather for a few days, next week looks more typical 50/60's for this time of year.
I guess the cold weather headed for us. It's overcast and ugly today. Good think you tested the sealer before doing it on the whole thing. That would have been a disaster once you discovered you didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteSo true Liz, I was so thankful I had a scrap of the same wood!
Delete70 on December 5--wow! We've had colder than normal weather here lately in S. Wisconsin, but it will be 50 on Sunday, which is very warm for us. Good luck with the construction and thanks for sharing the lemon and lime photos...yum!
ReplyDeleteThank you Beth, we will soon be around the 50's as well :)
DeleteThe flowers of that milkweed remind me of Grevillea 'Moonlight'. Your succulents all look pristine - mine need a good rain to clean them up. Best wishes with the sealant application!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it does look Grevillea like. I think the one rain definitely did us some good. Thank you!
DeleteI hope the sealant gives the look you're after. Love seeing the citrus fruit in a natural setting. I see it only in a grocery bin.
ReplyDeleteSealant day! The citrus flowers smell so nice, too. I feel lucky to be able to grow them.
DeleteIt’s very wintry. Snow plows have been out, and I have worn my winter coat for the first time. I don’t know if this is it or if it will warm up and the snow will melt for awhile, but we are close to the date when the snow will stay until April..
ReplyDeleteSnow until April! Well, I'm glad you got your winter coat out. Stay warm Anvil!
DeleteLemons and Limes ... YUM!!!!! My sister tried so hard to grow oranges here in Wisconsin. She got one! And then gave up on moving the tree in and out.. in and out.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few snow flakes falling, feeling very Christmas Card like. Or Snow Globe like. Hee Hee.
Carla
One orange isn't enough for all that moving, I agree with your sister. Oh, I bet the snow is lovely!
DeleteOoh! Love the pictures of your succulent bounty! We've a regular old lemon tree. It's not doing much at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bea :).
DeleteLove those agaves! Problem with your aloe flower: spray it with fungicide next time. It might help.
ReplyDeleteTitle font: Try this: https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/1227173?hl=en
Thank you Gerhard, x2!
DeleteMy gosh, it's almost as if you intentionally seeded your path with grass seed! Boophone - super cool. Interesting name calls to mine either a telephone call to the realm of the dead, or perhaps when you call someone up just to gripe. Aloe blooms - look like scaly claws crawling their way out from the side of the plant - scary. Oh, and Kitty! Our little Linnaeus is getting better at curling up with us now that winter has arrived. A good warm companion when the weather turns cold.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like I threw grass seed all over that path! Linnaeus is a great furry companion :)
DeleteBeautiful photos, like your own personal Huntington desert garden.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a wonderful compliment, thank you! *I will show more off the mess, it's making me cringe right now.
DeleteGreat job!! such a informative blog
