Filoli Gardens
We celebrated my daughter S and my own birthday (we share the same day of birth, making it even more celebratory!). A day out to visit Filoli Gardens in Woodside, CA.
The first Grand front room you enter into. This orchid was TALL.
The dining room.
James surveying the kitchen.
The kitchen just went on & on. 3 different rooms, and a little closet for what looked like an unloved pastry chef. No windows, nothing. There was a safe on the door to the silver, I should've snapped a picture.
In the ballroom, this sconce is beautiful on the blue walls.
From the Filoli website, the ballroom all done up for an event.
And out to the massive gardens, it was perfect weather!
You could dip in the pool if you were in the mood.
Staghorn!
They obviously love the bay weather, they were super sized. As I was later reading about the history of Filoli Garden, I realized we had visited the owner's other home a few years ago! Muckross House in Killarney, Ireland. Muckross was even more grand, and had an elaborate system of bells to call the servants from the basement.
And a delicious meal at our own Livermore Range Life restaurant, what a gem of a place!
Happy Birthday to any other May birthdays out there!
Well, that was a proper celebration of your birthday! - I was afraid you spent the day finishing the painting job on the fence ;) I'm glad you had a good time. I've only seen the Filoli Gardens in photos.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I managed to finish it before - mainly because the temps were going UP. Thank you!
DeleteMy second daughter and I also share the same birthday. I think it's kind of special. Glad you two had a good outing.
ReplyDeleteIt IS completely special, I agree! Thank you.
DeleteHappy birthday. And how fun to share it with your daughter. That is an amazing house. What a fun place to visit.
ReplyDeleteThank you Liz, it was a fun day!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I visited Filoli once, during the SF Fling. It was a miserably hot day (over 100) and the pool looked very tempting. However since staff LOUDLY reprimanded someone who dared to place a foot on the lawn (the nerve!) I can't imagine what would have happened if feet had been dangled in the pool.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's shocking! I just assumed you could go in because well, there was a gentlemen in there. And we definitely walked on the lawn. Not a single staff member outside anywhere that I saw. Thank you for the bday wishes.
DeleteAn agave at Filoli! I immediately thought of Loree :-)
DeleteI did exactly the same, the second I saw it!
DeleteHappy Birthday... what a fun tour. Thank you for taking us along. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd how fun to share your birthday with your daughter.
Love, Carla
Thank you Carla!
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit on your mutual birthdays, Tracy. While the house interiors were stunning, the yard is what impressed me even more. I can't ever imagine living in a home with so many rooms, but then there would be help if one could afford such luxury 😀
ReplyDeleteI was completely confused at first in that large of a home. Where am I? They had a nice living room at the back corner with lots of windows. It was the coziest spot in the home, and also a favorite for the family.
DeleteMissed this post--a belated Happy Birthday(s). Wonderful way to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteI got to visit Filoli once but we stuck to the gorgeous gardens and never went into the house. Same era (roughly) as the Huntington mansion in San Marino with same sort of Euro-cultural furnishings. Makes me wonder if the Huntington mansion still has a kitchen. Comparing both to the style of another rich person's home of somewhat the same era the Gamble House in Pasadena (Gamble as in Proctor and Gamble) shows a surprisingly different aesthetic.
Thank you HB! Oh, yes I wonder about Huntington "insides" as well. I'm going to look up the Gamble House now.
