Yesterday I posted pics from the back cacti/succulent garden.  Today a check-in on the front perennial garden.  Now we're starting to pop with Spring color!  We've had some light rain off & on yesterday and a little more today, then a slow warm-up is in store (thats what the weather people are saying anyway).  So I expect more weeds to pop up, but now that things are more filled in I'm hoping it won't be terrible.

Below is taken a little further back from the driveway.  The cement path in the middle leads to the front door from the sidewalk.

The verbena bonariensis never disappoints, stays in bloom for months & months.  I give it one good hacking July/August to keep it from covering the walk to the front door.

Dr. Feelgood squeezing in some Vitamin D during a break in his busy schedule.
Some close-ups, these low growers get lost in the big picture view.
I forgot about Calceolaria Calynopsis red!  So sweet hiding her little slippers.  Tons of buds ripe to open.
Hosta bed being overtaken by the columbine.  I put in one plant a few years back and uh, she's a reseeder.  I should pull these in the next couple days.
This area is in front of the porch, and gets a brief blast of sun in the early morning.  The spirea by the driveway is a favorite egg laying spot for praying mantis.

This Mimulus 'Jelly Bean Fiesta Marigold' from Annie's Annuals has increased in size a bit from last year.
Jerusalem sage
And a lovely trio of salvia, gazania & osteospurmum in front of hebe.

And I have to end with a surprise from the back dry garden.  I forgot about this little bulb Calochortus tolmiei or tolmie star tulip.  It is tiny & fragile, but the fluff and turquoise is really stunning.  Even if I needed to go get my readers to really appreciate it.  I adore a fluffy plant.

Looking forward to the sun coming back!

  1. Spring has definitely arrived! Nice to see Dr Feelgood enjoying your garden too. I love the Calochortus. I just checked in on Telos Rare Bulbs and, although most of their featured Calochortus are out of stock, a few are available. Time for me to do some online shopping it seems ;)

  2. Wow, that IS exactly where I bought a handful of bulbs in 2022. I forgot about the Calochortus! I need to check in with the Bulb Maven and see what is available.

  3. Wow, those are amazing views...and so much color! Thanks for sharing. I think my favorites are the views of the pathways and how they meander among all the beautiful plants and blooms.
