Another drippy morning, the plants do seem to love it - although blooms are late across the board.
This aeonium sunburst is HUGE!
It does look like sunny skies will be coming to Livermore soon. Just 70 degrees would feel heavenly. A wet morning walk just now through the back garden. Aloe hercules is living up to his name. I am infatuated with aloes, and planted 3 hercules just 2 years ago. This one, by far has been the sturdiest, chunkiest & quickest grower of the 3.
Below, I pulled the blue torch pilocereus from this spot and moved these notocactus magnificus in their place. They aren't supposed to be particularly frost tolerant, but they've overwintered here for several years now with no problems. The pilocereus had to be covered off & on all winter, and still got a little rot so they've been moved to a pot close to the house. Sprouted a little baby !
This little combo is so pretty in the rain, rose Princess Alexandria of Kent, echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg' and echeveria mexican snowball? I think.
Tapestry "high on life" in the new greenhouse J put together for me, I assure you (despite my tired looking eyes) I was just working! I plan on using the cloth tapestry to shade the front a bit as needed if and when it ever gets hot.
New dudleya spot, all of them enjoying the rain as they do.
I am impatiently waiting for my pachypodium lamerei to leaf out.
I'm enjoying the ozothamnus diosmifolius rice flower. I think the stems would be lovely in a bouquet.
Lewisia holding her own in the crevice garden.
Another one bites the dust, I've lost too many golden barrels to think about this year. This one is a hard loss, as it is at least a hefty 18". I tried a few anti fungals, I had nothing to lose. I had already lost.
I love how showy red this ferocactus gets under watering and/or rain.
Gray on gray, just like the days!
After years of complaining about the heat here, my friends and I are now endlessly complaining about about how cold it is! I keep hearing that a warm-up is coming but a local weather person just claimed that there may be yet another storm in the offing for next week.
ReplyDeleteI'm very envious of your greenhouse. The pretty tapestry is a nice touch. Sorry to hear about the loss of the barrel cactus.
I so agree with you, springtime should start in February and go through right until April 30. Lol, clearly we've been spoiled in the past, so far ours is a bit more rain tomorrow then a slooowwww dry warm up? We will see. 83 by next Friday, I really hope that holds. I hope this little greenhouse holds up over winter winds, I'd love to start seeds in there Jan. 2024.
