Is it just me, or is this leaning a bit?  This bed is under the kitchen window, and is a nice warm sheltered spot that I have utilized during this crazy wet winter.  So it looks a bit messy as everything gets hidden here for protection.- I finished moving the 3 yards of top soil on Friday!  Saturday I woke up with very sore arms, like I had walked on them all day.

I've placed some plants and am living with it for a few days before committing to planting.  Also, I need more plants!  As I went to move the leaning (and will eventually be too big for the area anyway) cereus repandus, oops snapped at a weak point.  Oh well, now I have extra.  I have some potted Browningia Hertlingiana I may try in this spot?

I do like the height of it here, it balances out the whole bed.

To the new bed, I've added an aloe ferox, and a few aloe speciosa (a favorite of mine, and they grow fast).  2x Xanthorrhoea glauca (Australian grass trees, Verrrrry slllooowww growing).  I'm still considering placement on Lophocereus Schotti (he is a chonky boy!),   various agave, leucadendron, aeoniums, Desert Museum Palo Verde (we desperately need some shade)  I plan on pruning aggressively, cereus peruvianus monstrose 'la belle' and who knows what else?  I left 3x cousin itt's and there will be a path winding to meet the existing path.  Hard to get an accurate picture, this is a longer than wide bed.

I really needed something easy to do, so started cleaning under the Strawberry tree, such a mess!

But, worth the mess - it's a beautiful tree.

Better, now I can use the awful blower to gather the small detritus.

You are not allowed inside.  After a day of growling & complaining from Grumpy - I can't blame Dr. Feelgood for locking the door.

  1. Maybe the plant is straight and the house is what is tilted? ;^)

But seriously, you are very talented designer--garden looks great!! Also excellent taste in plants since I have many of the same. Whoops, getting silly again.

Agreed Arbutus is a beautiful, beautiful tree. Brava to your skills, talent, and dedication as a gardener!

    1. hahahaha! The crooked little house, reminds me of that funky place -The Enchanted Forest! (took me a minute to find the name via google) we used to visit when we lived in Tualatin, OR. Thank you, you are kind - I'm certainly good at making mistakes and ripping things out. I love your garden, and check your blog every morning- fantastic inspiration!

  2. The Cereus looks great in its new position! And needing more plants means the fun of plant shopping (even if it may painful for the pocketbook). Have you had your Acacia 'Cousin Itt' for long? Mine got absolutely huge over time despite periodic trimming - they may cover more ground than you think.

Who is Grumpy, Dr Feedgood's ne'er-do-well friend?

    1. Thanks! Yes, I made a visit to the Dry Garden Nursery in Berkeley on Sunday. Tried to buy an aloe that wasn't for sale, lol. Still I had some success, and didn't break anything on the way home. I do have a few Acacia 'Cousin Itt' weirdly, some go bonkers growing huge (I do trim) and some just barely plugging along? Have you noticed the roots smell absolutely horrible? Grumpy is a cantankerous little grouch, but she is ours. I wouldn't say they are friends but for the most part tolerate each other. :)
